Drug family: Antibiotic and antiparasitic
WHEN IS FLAGYL TABLET AND DRINKABLE SUSPENSION PRESCRIBED ?
This medicine is an antibiotic and antiparasitic that belongs to the imidazole family.

It is used in the treatment of certain infectious or parasitic diseases of the intestine and genital tract.

CONTRAINDICATIONS OF THE DRUG FLAGYL TABLET AND ORAL SUSPENSION
This medication should not be used in the following cases
allergy to imidazoles,

children under 6 years of age (tablet).

CAUTION
Stop the treatment and seek medical advice immediately in case of :

signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling of the face (lips, eyelids...) or other parts of the body or difficulty breathing;

Signs of severe skin reaction such as redness of the skin with pustules that spread rapidly over the body, or a rash with no obvious cause and skin detachment or mucous membrane damage;

Nervous disorders such as difficulty coordinating movements, confusion, difficulty speaking or walking, tremors, involuntary eye movements or tingling of the extremities;

behavioural disorders (hallucinations, depressed mood, delirium, etc.), especially in the case of a history of mental disorders.

In the case of a history of blood count abnormalities, high dose treatment or prolonged treatment, the physician may prescribe blood tests to ensure that there are no blood abnormalities.

People with Cockayne's syndrome (a rare disease) should report any signs of liver damage to their doctor immediately: loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abnormal fatigue, jaundice, dark urine.

The drinkable suspension contains a significant amount of sugar (sucrose).

Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages or taking medicines containing alcohol during treatment: risk of antabuse effect.

Caution: driverDue to its potential adverse effects, this medication may not be compatible with driving a car or operating dangerous machinery in some people. Make sure that you tolerate this drug before driving or operating machinery.

INTERACTIONS OF FLAGYL TABLET AND ORAL SUSPENSION WITH OTHER SUBSTANCES
This drug may interact with drugs containing disulfiram (ESPERAL) or busulfan (only available in hospitals).

Also tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking an anticonvulsant, an oral anticoagulant, or a drug containing rifampin, lithium or fluorouracil.

FERTILITY, PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
PREGNANCY:
This drug may be prescribed during pregnancy, if needed.

BREASTFEEDING:
This drug passes into breast milk: breastfeeding is not recommended.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE OF FLAGYL TABLET AND ORAL SUSPENSION
This medication can be taken with or without meals.

USUAL DOSAGE :
Adult: 500 mg to 1.5 g per day, divided into 2 or 3 doses, depending on the disease.

Children: the dosage varies according to age, weight of the child and the infection treated.

ADVICE
After each use, rinse the measuring spoon with water and dry it.

The doctor may order a swab to identify the germ or parasite responsible for the infection and test its sensitivity to antibiotics. The result of this examination may be distorted if you have previously self-medicated: do not take antibiotics without medical advice.

If you have a genital infection, your partner may be infected even though he or she has no symptoms. If not treated together, recontamination is possible.

Reddish-brown urine is normal; it reflects the elimination of the drug.

The oral suspension should not be stored for more than 8 days after opening the bottle.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF FLAGYL TABLET AND ORAL SUSPENSION
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, lack of appetite, metallic taste in the mouth, inflammation and dryness of the mouth, discoloration of the tongue (fungus).

Tingling in the extremities, headaches, dizziness, confusion of ideas, convulsions, muscle stiffness, difficulty coordinating movements.

Hallucinations, depressed mood, delirium requiring medical advice (see Warning).

Visual disturbances (blurred or double vision, decreased visual acuity and changes in color vision)

Hot flashes, itching.

Very rarely: allergic reaction (urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic shock) or severe skin rash that require discontinuation of treatment and contraindicate further use (see Warning), pancreatitis, increased transaminases, hepatitis, abnormal blood count,.
